Merry has been bred and PJ now in heat

So, Merry and Mondo have bred twice and I might see if they are still interested this evening but really wouldn’t have to. Mondo still thinks she is cute — a least he is still standing on his hind legs straight up with nose straight up in the air sniffing as she sits at the top of the stairs. What a tease… and just now I noticed that PJ is in heat. She may have been doing something before today because the boys were interested in her but just now know for sure. So, hopefully I will do an almost repeat of last December. Their litters were born two days apart then but this time there should be a bigger difference. If today is her first day, PJ won’t breed for about 10-13 days. So, that would put the litters about that far apart. Of course, one could be early and the other late, etc, buat there abouts…

My Calendar

Anyone who has an upcoming appointment to drop off/pick up a dog, please re email me the dates and time. I had a big problem with my iphone and ipad synchronizing the data about three weeks ago and it took Apple three days to sort out/fix. In the process, seems I lost some data. Had one dog arrive today which was no longer on my calendar and just got an email confirming one coming tomorrow which I have but not the pick up day. sigh… this makes stuff difficult… possibility of me not being here when someone arrives….

Pearl had a very good weekend.

Here she is posing for her show picture today when she won her second Group One for the circuit. This was a big circuit for three days – over today because tomorrow at the show site is the Terrier National Specialty. All the top terriers were there so they did the BIS winning. But, there were all the top poodles there too and Pearl took Best of Variety three of the four days and took Group One two the three. These are pretty prestigious shows as the Hatboro Kennel Club is the largest in the country and there is always a big entry and the last day, tomorrow is the Terrior National. In fact, prior to going, my handler told me not to expect as much as she’s been doing but, hey, she fooled him – LOL. And when he texted me the results today, I apparently didn’t react accordingly. So, he called me to make sure I understood the magnitude of it all. I actually had not but I know Group One’s are always a good thing regardless. And these wins should help keep her in that top five ranking for getting a Westminster Invitation — I hope…

Lady

beautiful girl. we hope to breed her to Mondo soon. she is a Jada/Griffin daughter from their second litter — so full sibling to Reny who is a finished champion & Lili who we already bred to Mondo and had a gorgeous litter from which we kept the brownie – Susie Victoria. Lady is a “could/shoulda” in my opinion —- could have and should have been a champion. So, she & Mondo will also have beauties.

Pearl has done it again – Second Best in Show

woohooooooo. Pearl won the morning’s Quinnipiac Poodle Club Specialty Show — so she is no longer a one-hit-wonder – LOL. She won under a notable breeder judge too — meaningful to me as a breeder that breeder-judges put up my dogs!!! I don’t think specialties count in the rankings though-they never showed her first BIS on them. But, not complaining — she has me on cloud nine again. I think her Great Granny Annie is watching over her —

Pearl is #3

Was hoping she made it to #5 but she went even better – as of August 31st she is the #3 Standard Poodle in the AKC Breed ranking. She is also #2 for Grand Championship points earned so far this year and she is #6 Standard Poodle in the AKC All Breeds ranking. The Breed ranking is based on what she does in the Breed/Variety ring — where the breed judging is done and has to win Best of Variety to count in the ranking. Whoever wins Best of Breed/Variety then can go into the group judging. You can win in the breed ring and not do anything in the group, hence the two rankings. To go up in the All Breed ranking, you have to win or place in the group judging. Pearl has been pretty consistently doing some placement/winning in the group so she has gone up in that ranking too. Its pretty meaningful too — its much harder to do something in the group than in the breed ring. So #6 there is very good too. But, the Breed ranking is what matters for Westminster — you have to at least qualify to be eligible to even enter WKC and then you have to put in multiple entries and hope at least one is picked in the lottery-style entry process. Last year, she qualified and we put in five entries and two were picked so we went. This year, if she maintains a place in the top five Breed ranking, she will be invited and I just say, yes thank you, we will be there. Now, right behind her in a tie for fourth place are two dogs who as of the end of August were about 120 pts behind her. She sat out two weekends in September so I hope that doesn’t enable those two to pass her which would put her back to #6. Ohhhhh, the suspense… But no matter — I mean, wow, my girl made it to #3 standard poodle in the country — wooohoooooooo
