All Puppies Doing Well

I will post picures tomorrow — I hope. I’ve been a bit busy and trying to catch a nap here and there and finish Christmas shopping. Tomorrow I must bathe my girl in show coat too. not complaining — I NEVER complain about having puppies and I truly don’t mind the grooming of a show coat — I kind of luxuriate in it and zone out while doing it. Just takes time. So, tomorrow, tomorrow… But I wanted to quickly let everyone know that the newborns are doing very well. PJ’s are a whole week old today. Merry’s will be sunday. wow.

Merry had her babies too.

Just finished helping Merry whelp her 12 – she does not get them put of the asks nor eats any of those. So I do all that and give them to her and she takes over nicely.m of the 12, all black as expected, one girl dead, two live girls, rest boys. So 9 boys, 2 girls, total 11. So between the two litter I have 18 — one brown male, 6 black girls and 11 black boys!!!!!!  Lots of little Mondo’s. She started labor around four am and delivered her first at 7, finishing all 12 deliveries by noon.. Pretty quick. We are all tired so I’m heading to bed.

She’s Done

15 is just too many. We lost 7 of them. PJ delivered 13 And then stopped or at least seems to. After hours of nothing I took her to the vet with all her babies in tow. Vet checked blood calcium level – it was fine – did xray – yep, still two more. Did sonogram – one no heartbeat. Did Sam and said thought she was going sliver the two so waited on the oxycitocin shot. I put her babies on to nurse which sometimes stimulates contractions and voila. Sure enoug, PJ managed to deliver both the remaining puppies and yes, one was dead. PJ and babies are back home snuggled in their whelping box. I’m going to bed!!!! Bt not before telling you that I took Merry along for her xray and she is carrying 12!!!!!!! I am not surprised because she looks big again and did have a litter of eleven the first time (unlike OJ having had only three then did not conceive at all and then this 15 – think I am still in shock). But I don’t think Merry’s whelping will be like today. If like her first she will deliver all just fine and they will be big robust puppies. My girls OS this generation are certainly making up for them many litters I had of one two or three or none for quite awhile. Oh well, just have to take things as they come. Now I hope these newborns thrive and will be in there trying to help. I am always on alert the first week. AND on another note – my Pearl got Select yesterday in Orlando -nice given the rather large line up of specials dogs…

Still not done…

PJ has delivered 13 and because of the xray I know she has two more to go. As expected, we’ve lost some – five – sigh. 15 is just too many to develop properly. Anything over ten is common to lose some. But so far these are doing fine. PJ is sleeping but wish she would finish so I can!!!!

PJ is Starting

We will be busy probably starting later tonight. She is nesting and restless and doing some panting – the start of it all. She wouldn’t eat yesterday but today did when my sister offered her mcdonald’s fish fillet which PJ has never had before, but she wouldn’t eat the french fries which she usually loves. This evening she ate my chicken. But, this is funny – she only ate mine which was white meat. My mom offered her the dark meat she eats but PJ turned up she nose. We tried several times but she could tell the difference. too funny… Stay tuned…

PJ is carrying FIFTEEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, after her first litter being only 3 and then not conceiveing at all, PJ is now carrying 15 puppies. While you never know of course, usually you lose some with this size litter and on the x-ray a couple looked smaller than the others so those may be the ones. Then of course, maybe they will all survive and I’ll be helping PJ feed them all. Let’s hope so. Losing puppies no matter how many is not fun. I worry in any case but now will be especially on alert. Not that you can usually do much – they either make it or they don’t unless like with one from Merry’s first litter of eleven, one is just small but not anything else wrong and eventually catches up in size but needs a little help from her “gramma” while bitsy. Fifteen is a new record for me. I knew she looked big but never imagined this!!!! She is due this saturday but now could deliver any time so I am officially on puppy watch. I will get Merry’s x-ray on Friday. You don’t do the x-ray til under a week from due date and she is due next week, the 18th. She actually looks bigger than PJ – LOL. Just can’t second guess this stuff — one reason I bred them both is because PJ had only the three and then none so figured if she conceived she would have a small to medium litter. So much for that thought. But, I am never happier than when I have puppies – so I will certainly have a Merry Christmas as well as a busy one. So, stay tuned for Merry’s x-ray results and PJ’s whelping. Everyone send their prayers for PJ to do well… and as a side note send good thoughts for my girl Pearl showing in Florida and the Eukanuba National!!!!!!!!!!!!
