PCA 2012 — QUITE A WEEK!!!!!!!!

I love PCA every year, but of course love it even more when I have dogs showing. This year was especially sweet because it was the culmination of my “once in a lifetime” project to show enough puppies in a litter to make their mother a Top Producer with her first litter. I chose five out of nine to show. All were pointed as puppies!!!! One male finished as a puppy (Mondo) so I put him in the Parade of Champions, a non-competitive class offered to show off your champions without having to compete at the show. One female finished and became a Grand Champion a bit prior to PCA (Vivi), so she could go in Open class. I pulled the another girl (Ruby) when Vivi did so well because I really didn’t have the money or need to finish five — really only needed three but wanted four to hedge my bets to be sure I made Velvet a TP. And two I held back specifically to put them in 12-18 month classes (Questo & Pearl). Questo and Pearl did very, very well. So exciting to see them at all let along to see them win and place. Now they will go on to finish their championships and I may decide to go further for their Grand Championships. Whew… then I guess I’ll have to grow out Mondo so he to can get a GCH. Hmmm, maybe not… Vivi came home with me and is cut down to be a regular dog — until she has babies!!! It was fun today to watch her and Mondo play — no dogs play together like littermates!!! I’ve posted each dog’s pictures in separate posts below.

PCA Pictures – Mondo

This is Mondo – he is the Velvet puppy that finished as a puppy last October. So, I put him in the parade to show him off along with her three siblings… Purty boy…

PCA Pictures – Vivi

This is Vivi — she was in open and did not make the cut. Oh Well.. a bit funny since she is already finsihed and a Grand Champion as of two weeks ago!!! So, still cannot complain…. This girl looks very, very much like her mother, Velvet. A bit small/more refined and of course black. So pretty – just look at that face…

PCA Pictures – Pearl

This is Pearl placing third in her class of 12-18 month bitches. This was a really competitive class. Besides thinking it would be too much to hope for her to do something since the day before her brother Questo won his class, I watched as the class entered the ring and all were exceptional. Everyone sitting around was saying, oh my, I would hate to have to judge this class. And later, I spoke to the judge and he said it was actually the most difficult to judge of the whole show because of the extreme quality in it. So, wow that my girl placed at all. I’ll take it!!!

Merry & Mondo playing with their two girls.

Just took these pictures. Beautiful evening, took Merry and Mondo out with the two girls from their litter that I have — Teeny who is not very teeny any more now at 18 lbs and Mimi, the girl I kept to show/breed. Teeny may be a keeper after all. I groomed her and she is quite beautiful too. sigh…

Velvet had her puppies

Velvet was carrying eleven — two litters of eleven in a row. However four did not make it. I will spare you the details. This was not the smoothest whelping although Velvet did very, very well and seven wonderful puppies are now doing fine — plumping up and looking beautiful. Velvet is being a great momma again. Doesn’t even want me picking them up yet. They are a quiet litter – I actually slept through the night whereas usually they wake me several times crying out. Some cry whenever they wake up hungry, but this group only cries when really upset. Funny how each litter is different. Keeps me on my toes!!!

Reny — getting ready to breed to Mondo

Reny is out of my girl Jada (who is a Peri/Luca daughter) and sired by my boy Griffin. Jada is co-owned and lives with Julia and David who finished her as a puppy. Reny did very well taking a couple of Best Puppy in Specialty Shows and more to finish her championship a bit before turning a year. She is quite beautiful and of course a darling girl. Well, Julia fell in love with Mondo when he was all of about 8 weeks old. She and David co-own him for the main purpose of using his stud services with Reny. In preparation for all this, they got her testing done and voila, got back an OFA Excellent on her hips. Yay Reny.
