Velvet had her puppies
Posted by vlaw in Uncategorized on April 16, 2012

Velvet was carrying eleven — two litters of eleven in a row. However four did not make it. I will spare you the details. This was not the smoothest whelping although Velvet did very, very well and seven wonderful puppies are now doing fine — plumping up and looking beautiful. Velvet is being a great momma again. Doesn’t even want me picking them up yet. They are a quiet litter – I actually slept through the night whereas usually they wake me several times crying out. Some cry whenever they wake up hungry, but this group only cries when really upset. Funny how each litter is different. Keeps me on my toes!!!
Reny — getting ready to breed to Mondo
Posted by vlaw in Uncategorized on April 13, 2012
Reny is out of my girl Jada (who is a Peri/Luca daughter) and sired by my boy Griffin. Jada is co-owned and lives with Julia and David who finished her as a puppy. Reny did very well taking a couple of Best Puppy in Specialty Shows and more to finish her championship a bit before turning a year. She is quite beautiful and of course a darling girl. Well, Julia fell in love with Mondo when he was all of about 8 weeks old. She and David co-own him for the main purpose of using his stud services with Reny. In preparation for all this, they got her testing done and voila, got back an OFA Excellent on her hips. Yay Reny.
Fun Day

Playing with puppies, of course!! Denise and Paul picked up their puppy, Jazz. And Gail and John brought Casey back for a play date. So we had the two of them plus another boy, Louie, boarding for the weekend and my two girls, Teeny and the one I kept to show and breed. I have yet to give her a call name, calling her My Girl and often signing that old song while doing so. But, today, Gail suggested Mimi and I like it, so I will see if it sticks. But, I didn’t take any pictures — did you Gail/John/Denise/Paul? All the puppies were weighed. Now, Casey was the biggest, hence me calling him Mondo Jr. And he is still the tallest. But, Jazz weighed in at 29.25 lbs, Casey 25 lbs, Louie a bit less as was Mimi. And little Teeny – well I may not be able to call her that much longer since she now weighs 18 lbs. Certainly catching up. And quite a beauty — I groomed her today too. Beautiful face and her carriage is quite nice — she is full of herself and holds herself accordingly…
Vivi needs three more points for her Grand Championship after winning a four pt major both yesterday and today. Hopefully tomorrow!!!

Velvet is pregnant!!! And Maybe Nala — wow…
Posted by vlaw in Uncategorized on March 22, 2012
Yay, Velvet is pregnant and due around 20 April. I bred her to a top winning dog in MD, CH Wildrose Tiger the Grreat. Tiger won our national specialty (PCA – Poodle Club of America) two years ago as a puppy — quite a big deal. He also earned an Award of Merit at PCA while still under 2 years old which is also a big deal since the AOM is given to dogs in Best of Variety class who the judge deems worthy of extra recognition. These dogs are the cream of the crop. And Velvet is his first breeding outside his breeder’s line. Way to go Velvet… The sonogram saw 6 puppies. Her first pregnancy – pictured below – the sonogram saw 5 and she had nine. She is already getting rather large so I am guessing she has more than six growing in there. I will take whatever she gives me, darling girl. AND, Nala – a Peri/Marco daughter that my friend has just might be pregnant too. Lest you think I am becoming a puppy mill — lol — I was assuming she was not pregnant given she missed twice before and my friend at first thought she was not. Yesterday she sends me a picture of Nala laying sideways and it appears that her tummy is no longer tucked up tightly. So,hmmmmm. Well, I will x-ray her when she would be a week prior to her due date and know for sure — she is or she isn’t. And, again, I will take them if so. Once before I had back-to-back litters because when I skipped couple girls, the ones I did breed did not conceive and I went darn near two years with no puppies. So, I said I would not do that again. Last year I had two misses — Nala and her sister PJ, so this time even though Merry had a big litter, I thought ok, try one more time with Nala and it was too soon to know if she was pregnant or not when Velvet came into heat. Now, Velvet goes up to 10 months in between so I certainly was not skipping her. So, I just may have a banner year with a bunch of puppies for a change — yay!!!!!!!!!!! Here is a picture of Velvet during her last pregnancy and one of Nala playing. Such pretty girls…
